Newborn to 12 Months Baby Clothes Size Guide
Share
Baby clothing labels based only on age can be misleading because two babies of the same age may have very different weights and body lengths. A better starting point is to compare your baby’s current measurements with the garment’s size guide, then use age as a secondary reference.
Why weight and body length matter
Weight helps indicate overall body size, while total body length helps you judge whether a bodysuit, romper, shirt or trouser is likely to sit comfortably. Looking at both measurements reduces the chance of choosing a garment that is roomy in one area but too short in another.
For the most useful comparison, use a recent weight and length measurement. If your baby is receiving clinical care, ask the care team which measurement should guide clothing selection and whether the baby should be dressed at that stage.

| 3–6 Months | 5.7–7.6 kg | 62–68 cm |

How to choose a size
- Start with current weight. Find the range that contains your baby’s most recent weight.
- Compare body length. Check whether the same size also covers your baby’s current length.
- Review the garment style. A bodysuit must have enough torso length, while trousers and shorts need a comfortable waistband and leg length.
- Check the available variant. Some ZB designs begin at Newborn, while selected sets begin at Prem 1 and continue through 12 months.
- Choose the roomier option when between sizes. This usually provides more growing space, unless a clinician has advised a particular fit.
What each stage may need
Newborn
Prioritise simple outfits that support frequent diaper changes. Soft bodysuits, comfortable bottoms and coordinated sets can form a practical first wardrobe. Explore the Newborn Essentials collection.
0–3 and 3–6 Months
Babies often need flexible everyday pieces as movement increases. Short-sleeve and sleeveless bodysuits work well for warm weather and layering, while 2-piece sets make complete outfits easier to plan.
6–9 and 9–12 Months
Look for garments that allow comfortable movement through the shoulders, hips and legs. Recheck weight and length before repeating a previous size, because growth does not always follow the age label evenly.
A practical buying checklist
- Confirm the selected design and size before adding to cart.
- Use weight and body length together.
- Check the opening style for easier dressing and diaper access.
- Choose fabric weight for the weather and indoor environment.
- Check elastic, snaps and fastenings before every use.
- Follow the garment care label and keep clothing away from fire.
