Preemie vs Newborn Clothes: Size and Fit Guide
Preemie and Newborn clothes are not the same size category in ZB’s chart. ZB has several smaller-size ranges before Newborn, and Newborn is itself separate from 0–3 Months. Those names describe clothing ranges; they do not assess a baby’s health or decide what can be worn in hospital.

How ZB names the smaller clothing sizes

Compare the range and the garment independently
The photographs are not to scale and do not show measured size differences. They illustrate two garment types sold in different size ranges: a separate top and trousers and a bodysuit. The first is not automatically more appropriate for a care setting merely because it comes in smaller sizes.
Openings do not define the size category
A small garment may have a front opening, shoulder overlap or another construction. A Newborn garment may also have any of these features. Read the actual description and selected photographs. “Preemie” does not mean every garment has wrap panels, open feet or access for medical equipment.
For example, Little Coco has a straight front opening. The Little Bunny bodysuit has a rounded neckline, while the solid-colour Baby Basic Bodysuits have envelope necklines. The useful comparison is the exact variant’s opening, length and included pieces, not an assumption about its size name.
When should you change to a different size?
Review the clothes when their current fit changes, and compare the measurements requested by the brand. A bodysuit’s torso length, a top’s body width and a trouser waistband can become limiting at different times. There is no single age or number of weeks at which every baby should move from preemie to Newborn clothing.
If weight and length fall in different ZB rows, contact ZB before ordering. Do not force a choice from age alone or automatically buy a larger item. For hospital use, keep the care team’s clothing instructions separate from the shopping-size decision.
